When most of the city and the country were out there cutting cakes, bursting crackers, roaming the streets on bikes/cars, partying their way into the New Year Sai Youth from the Twin Cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad were involved in a very different activity. 36 youth joined hands with EMRI Ambulances (Emergency Management and Research Institute) to provide emergency medical assistance to people of Greater Hyderabad.

All of them congregated in Sivam at 6pm to participate in bhajans. After receiving blessings of the Lord they departed to different parts of the city to join hands with the crew of EMRI Ambulances, some traveling as far as 25 km away from home. It was expected that there would be a spike in the number of accident cases reported in the city on the New Years eve and also that the mobile networks would be jammed because of increased traffic. To mitigate these risks additional help was sought and the Sai Organisation was there right in the forefront.

Each ambulance had 2 Sai Youth along with the Driver and the Medical Technician. The crew was very excited to have special guests and delivered their duties with more rigor and enthusiasm. Below is a first hand account of one of the cases:

Ramanthapur: An RTA call prompted the pilot and EMT to start for Ramanthapur. On reaching the site a bloody sight awaited us. Two persons badly injured with broken legs lay before us. One of them had a badly bleeding forehead. There was a huge crowd around which had to be dispersed and order restored. The Sai Youth assisted the team by requesting the crowd to make way for the team to reach the victims and also not crowd around. Crowd was also trying to lend a helping hand to the victims but was promptly ordered not to touch the victims as the team suspected fractures. First aid

was administered and the van made its way to the nearest hospital. The victims were suffering from trauma and also pain because of the broken legs. The Victims were domiciled in Zaheerabad and were in Hyderabad for studies. The New Year sway got them into rash driving and the result was this disastrous consequence. The other observation we made is that none of these victims wore helmets. Being rejected by a corporate hospital the victims we promptly transferred to the next nearest Osmania General Hospital. The victims were deposited with care on the beds and soon the kind and gracious sisters began their magic. In the intervals between cases the EMT and the Pilot were busy filling the much needed documentation for the cases attended to. May God bless them for the Free Service they are providing to the society.

Sai Youth participated in this exercise from 10pm till about 5 am and handled more than 120 Emergency Cases. They also realized how blessed they were being in Swami’s fold to spend their Holy-Days.
